Martyn Halsey Biography
Martyn Halsey hails from Kensington, London. As well as a lifelong ability for writing songs and poetry, Martyn has a special and extraordinary talent for whistling. Anyone who hears his sound is both fascinated and captivated by its beauty and harmonic purity.
Martyn has played and recorded with numerous bands and artists, including the Love Affair and The Tremeloes and has brought his unrivalled live act to gala performances for the likes of Elton John and Diana, Princess of Wales. He also appeared on the James Whale Show on ITV. In addition, he has been featured on the Esther Rantzen Programme and Saturday Superstore, both on BBC1.
His live shows are legendary. He is particularly remembered for his performances at the London Lord Mayor’s Show during the 1990s and has also appeared at such diverse venues as the London Hippodrome and Eton College. He appears regularly at London’s Troubadour Club and can often be heard on Talksport Radio. He also makes regular guest appearances in The Bogus Blues Brothers tribute band.
Martyn has recently completed a new showcase CD entitled ‘Black & White’. Later this year (2007) he is due to tour and film in Australia, where he will also be performing and recording a duet with the world-famous ‘Father of Whistling’ – the legendary Ronnie Ronalde.
He has been called ‘The Fred Astaire of Whistling’ and ‘a modern-day Jake Thackaray’. His live act comprises his own songs plus his unique interpretation of music by the likes of The Beatles and Lionel Ritchie, plus such songs as ‘I Got Rhythm’, You’ve Got a Friend’ and ’Millennium’.
